How do I choose a therapist?

Finding the right therapist can take time. Feeling like your therapist understands or "gets" your experience is essential for your therapy to be successful! Some ways to know that a therapist is right for you include feeling emotionally safe, heard and understood, and that you can give feedback or correct your therapist if they got something wrong.

What happens in therapy sessions?

Psychotherapy is known as "talk therapy", so much of what is done in session is discussion, questions from the therapist to explore or deepen their or the client's understanding of an issue, psycho-education, and feedback. Depending on your needs and preferences, some sessions can involve exercises (like breathing or mindfulness) and homework for in between sessions.

How much does it cost per session?

I charge $170 plus HST for a standard 50 minute session.

Are you covered by insurance?

I provide official receipts that can be submitted to an insurance provider for reimbursement; I am unable to do direct billing. It is up to the client to determine if their insurer covers services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist.

What are ACT and CBT therapies?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a modality that works on increasing mental flexibility, by changing how we relate to our thoughts and emotions, opening up to experiences, and committing to value-oriented actions and behaviours. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) addresses the link between thoughts-feelings-behaviour, by challenging negative thinking that leads to difficult emotions and unhelpful behaviours.

Can you see children, couples, or families?

I see clients on an individual basis only, from ages 16 and older.
